HOA Newsletter July 04
Please remember that 2004 Homeowners Association assessments are due by January 1, April 1, July 1, and October 1, 2004. The Management Company mailed coupon books in December 2003 to each homeowner. No advance reminder notices are sent out, so it is important that you note the quarterly due dates. If payments are not received within 10 days of the due date, the account is considered delinquent and late fees are assessed.
The first meeting of the new Herndon Woods Neighborhood Watch back in March was a success. Joe Gould, from the Herndon Community Resource Center came and spoke to our group about what a neighborhood watch is - and is not, responded to our questions and concerns, and discussed current initiatives to prevent crime. If you wish to join, or to sign up for email alerts, please contact Ann Affleck at 703 481 5296 or email@example.com. The next meeting will be held in July, time and date TBA. Join us!
The National Night Out program along with the Herndon Woods Homeowners Association is currently planning our Annual Community Block Party on August 3. For more information or to join the planning committee, contact Ann Affleck. And in the coming days, the brand new Herndon Woods Neighborhood Watch website will go live. A Herndon Woods resident writes: “On Wednesday night, June 23, I set my trash container by the curb. The next morning I opened the container and discovered that somebody had placed chicken bones and a Domino pizza box in my trash. Neither the chicken bones nor the pizza box were placed in a garbage bag – they were lying on top of my bags. The situation could have been worse had there been any kind of animal running around outside looking for food. It has happened before. Dogs have knocked down garbage cans looking for food which then requires cleaning up by the property owner because the dog owner simply walks away.
It is difficult for me to comprehend that anybody that lives in Herndon Woods is so poor that he/she cannot afford to purchase a trash can and has to dump his/her garbage on somebody else’s property. Or maybe the individual was just too lazy to put out a trashcan.
In any event, this shows a lack of respect for neighbors and for their property.”
On Tuesday, August 3, residents and the Herndon Police are joining forces with thousands of communities nationwide for the 21st Annual National Night Out. Sponsored by the National Association of Town Watches and the Herndon Police, the community wide event is designed to generate participation in local crime prevention efforts and strengthen neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships.
National Night Out features the popular police motorcades that stop for about 20 minutes between 4:30 and 9:00 pm in each neighborhood hosting an organized National Night Out event. This year the motorcades will be assembling from 3:45 to 4:15 at the Dulles Park Shopping Center on Elden Street, offering an opportunity for residents to view the vehicles before they head out to the neighborhoods.
The motorcade includes classic cars and police cruisers and motorcycles from Herndon, the Fairfax County Sheriff’s Office, Metropolitan Washington Airports Authority, and the Virginia State Police. A new addition to the motorcade this year is “big trucks” from the Dept. of Public Works. Police officers and McGruff the crime dog will be bringing lots of goodies for the kids in each neighborhood.
Thirteen neighborhoods are participating in National Night Out by holding a variety of events, including cookouts and pool parties with games, music and more. Participating neighborhoods include Harbor House, Dumbarton Square, Parkway Plaza, Four Seasons, Dominion Ridge, Monroe Street, Herndon Woods, Herndon Oaks, Virginia Avenue, Jefferson Mews, Waterford Park, Stuart Woods, and Crestview. The motorcade will also be stopping by the Herndon Community Center to meet with the kids participating in youth programs.
